Introduction to the New Project
I’m thrilled to share what I’ve been working on—a collaborative effort with a talented crew of craftsmen and artists to create a bold and inspiring new installation.
Building on the success of the Bye Bye Steely T farewell event, this project pushes the boundaries of artistic expression and craftsmanship.
At its base stands a majestic tortoise, its shell formed from polished concrete tiles embedded with colored glass aggregates and illuminated by 2.5 km of 0.5 mm fiber optics, which glow gently at night.
By day, the embedded glass pieces shimmer in the sun, set into a surface smooth to the touch. As night falls, a glowing globe above the tortoise lights up with pinpoint holes in its metal surface, casting celestial patterns that map the positions of major cities around the world.
Rising from the globe is a graceful doe—a symbol of gentleness and wisdom—with an owl perched atop her as a beacon of knowledge. Fiber optics animate the doe with individually addressable LEDs, giving her a lifelike presence. Delicate butterflies hover nearby, adding an ethereal quality to the scene. Both the globe and the animal figures rotate independently, bringing dynamic movement that enhances the installation’s immersive quality.
The structure contrasts solid, grounded elements with light, floating ones—drawing the eye upward and creating a sense of vertical presence. During the day, the tactile interplay of concrete, gleaming metal, and gentle motion engages the senses. By night, fiber optics and starlike constellations transform the piece into a beacon of wonder.
This project is a testament to the power of collaboration, imagination, and skilled craftsmanship.
